Description:

This is a swap series, there will be at least four items (possibly more depending on how popular the series becomes).

There have been other curiousity Cabinet swaps which have had specific themes, but the only theme of this is a "General Cabinet of Curiosities" - along with the specific item for each swap.

  1. Medicine Bottle (this swap)
  2. Mythical Creature
  3. Powerful Object
  4. Sender's choice Curiousity (3D object)

The wiki definition lists "A cabinet of curiosities was an encyclopedic collection in Renaissance Europe of types of objects whose categorical boundaries were yet to be defined."

I have a Cabinet of Curiosities myself, I'd best be described as a steampunk and I am obsessed with Medical History (Victorian and Edwardian Medical and Scientific Ephemera) so mine is based around those themes - but yours may be different! Make sure you have plenty of clues on your profile to guide your swap partner. It is sender's choice on item design, colours, appearance etc but always nice to be guided by your partnet's profile :)

For this swap you'll make a Medicine Bottle. You need to include the following in the item:

  • A glass bottle (at least 2" tall)
  • A label describing the contents (or previous or imaginary contents)

You need to do some making for this swap - you should create the label yourself, please don't simply print one off a googled image and stick it on with no extra embellishment. The finished bottle doesn't need to be hugely elaborate - but make something that would proudly sit in a Curiosity Cabinet! Actual contents are optional - but please don't send anything liquid through the mail and bear in mind customs regulations for what you're allowed to actually ship internationally and domestically.

Your medicine bottle can represent a real or imaginary medicine, perhaps one with magical powers!

Remember to wrap your glass bottle well!

You'll need 5 type 3 rated swaps under your belt and a rating of 4.85. If you're a newbie or don't fulfill these criteria - message me and I'll see what I can do - I'm happy to do private swaps to help newbies build up ratings.

I will be checking profiles (make sure your profile is well filled out - if I don't have to scroll down to read it all - it's not enough, too-short-a-profile makes me worry!) and I will angel (though sure hope it never comes to that!)

Any size specifications? I have those little bottles with cork stoppers that are used as necklace pendants, about an inch or so tall...

This sounds like great fun! I'm in China & HK until the 18th but i'll be able to send out after that, who knows maybe i'll find the perfect bottle on lascar rd!
Please only send an empty bottle to me dear partner~! Australian customs can be mighty finicky sometimes.

@theprofessionalamateur - that's a really good question. I think size wise it ought to be at least 2" tall. I do like those little tiny bottles you mention, but this swap is for an item for a curiosity cabinet, so an inch would be a bit too small I think. Thanks.

I've never done a swap like this before but I'm really eager to get into it-- definitely already have some ideas for my full set! (or rather-- my partners' pieces :p)

thanks @sebastian122 that's a good link :)

there is also The Graphics Fairy which is a truly great resource for free images and she has a really good selection of labels and frames too

@papermoon - I'm really keen to get started too! Partners assigned tomorrow - so we can get stuck into it then! :D

There may be a bit of a delay until I list the next in this series (due to a family member becoming seriously ill), but I'll list it as soon as I'm able.
