I saw this done in a quilt at our local fair this past weekend, and couldn't believe that I had never thought of it! They are called crumb quilt blocks, and they use up your stash of bits and pieces of fabric. If this becomes popular I can continue the series of swaps. You can use a muslim or other lightweight fabric for the backing, and you sew freeform and willy nilly basically (pieced method). The tutorial is here or here or here. OR if you are using bigger scraps of fabric, you may not need to use a backing fabric. It is YOUR choice how you wish to do it, just make sure that the quilted block is sturdy. There are a lot of tutorials out there. I thought this would be fun to try! Let's make 6 inch blocks. In the tutorial, they make one BIG block and cut it down, that's up to you. If you decide to do that, you can start with a 12 inch square piece of muslin, then cut it up into four 6 inch blocks, send 3 out and keep 1 for yourself. Use good quality fabrics, nothing too flimsy. Obviously fabrics are senders choice, and the more crumbs you can squeeze in the better! Finished block size is 6 inches. We will have 3 partners that you will each send 1 block to. I am keeping this USA only, but feel free to make an international swap if you'd like. If you're block isn't too thick, the postage won't be a lot since you can fold the block in half and tuck it into a regular envelope. There will be no rating limits, however if you have 1's or 3's in the past 6 months you MUST message me and explain! Full profiles ONLY for all members please. I will angel or find an angel if needed. If you have questions please PM me for faster response. |
