Description:

Ever since my son was born a few months back, I have enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing projects for him. So, for my next project, I have decided to turn it into a swap.

Your task is to either knit, sew or crochet a sock monkey. A suggested minimum height requirement for your monkey should be 10 inches using classic sock monkey body colors (check out photo). You are welcome to start on your monkey now. Once the swap is closed to participants, I will then assign you a partner. Please indicate whether or not you would like a male or female monkey. A cute outfit or accessories to complement the gender of the stuffed animal would be wonderful. International participants are welcome to join as are newbies with full profiles. If you have any questions or suggestions, please let me know.

I am including free pattern instructions below on how to make your sock monkey:

If anyone is knitting or crocheting the sock monkey, any ideas on yarn to get that speckled look?

So, it HAS to be classic sock monkey colors? Or can we ask our partner what they would prefer?

kimmbee 05/31/2008 #

We can certainly ask our partners what they prefer. I won't start mine until I get assigned a person. I will make sure to include that request in addition to either male or female or no preference.

I'd only ask that my partner not include button eyes, since it will be much loved and used by my two little girls and I'd like ti to be toddler/baby safe - thanks!

Yay! I love making sock monkies! Ahem. I don't have a gender preference, but I do have a timing preference. If whomever is my partner would send my monkey near the end of June or beginning of July that would be so very cool. Thanks!

I'm sorry..He's Crafty!!!.I just got back from vacation this week...I am finishing up your monkey and will get it in the mail to you by the end of the week. I hope it's not too late!!!!

Hi Kimbee, I did find yarn that has that speckled look. It's Vanna's Choice Taupe Mist, works great. I made a Sock Monkey Scarf from it!!! You can see it at www.busybeenotions.etsy.com!

I'm looking for a pattern to do a monkey like the one in the picture. If there is a pattern for it, please let me know. I'm trying to find the pattern so I may make one for a friend's baby.
