Someone I met referred to herself as an "old goat" the other day. Old goats ... so evocative, so smelly, so ... human, in a goatlike way. I submit that this group is the PERFECT group to honor the Old Goat, either an actual goat which is old, or a human that could be referred to as an Old Goat: an allegory, an image, a poem, a drawing, a collage, a piece of mail art, a mural on the side of your garage, a toy goat with kissy lips painted on it? You know what you want to do to celebrate old goats. Just do it and send something to your partner. Anything. I mean it. Go to a meeting of the Red Hat Society with a tiny goat on your hat and write about it. Visit an Old Goat (human or capra) and send a beguiling picture. Interview an old goat and send a sound file ("maaaaaaaahuhuhuh"). Figure out which Shakespearean character most resembles an Old Goat and explicate why. Be an Old Goat for a day and let your partner know how the flowers and tin cans taste. Write a recipe for Old Goats, featuring aged goat cheese. Please do not send ACTUAL Old Goats to your partner unless you have checked with them first. I think that early November is the perfect time to honor old goats. In the Northern Hemisphere, old goats might be feeling cold and wistfully thinking of the springtime of their lives, and in the Southern Hemisphere old goats might be feeling a little frisky, or, hey, it could be the reverse. Do send something, or I'll call up a local goat and sic them on your favorite flowered underwear. image credit, Rod Collins photographer and Lincolshire history blogger, UK |
