Description:

This was inspired from @paperpusher s link to some washi projects (in the forum). I found a fun project to make washi envelopes. Here's the tutorial: Washi Envelopes

The person who did this blog made hers to fit CDs, but for this swap, we will be re-sizing ours to fit standard size playing cards - thus, a perfect envie for sending washi tape samples. :)

Note: Since some playing cards are different sizes, please plan to include the cards you based your size off of. For example, mine are less than the 3 inches, so I made them to fit that card. By including the cards, we can be sure our partners can use them for samples in the future. But still, only one card has to be included with washi tape in the one the envelopes (for each partner). If you are confused, post a comment below and I'll try to explain it further.

For paper, please use a decorative one - scrapbook papers work great. I seem to always have a strip left when making envelopes, so this will be perfect for that. You may have some too.

It's easy to re-size them. For my playing card, I used a strip of paper 8" long, and 3" wide. If your card is smaller or larger, just adjust accordingly. If you don't have a circle punch, just cut a "v" for the notch.

We will be making 3 mini washi envies for each of our 2 partners. Into one of the envelopes (in each set) you will put a playing card with 4 different washi tape samples (12" min length) for each of your partners to play with. Sender's choice on paper colors/tapes used. Please decorate your mailing envelopes with tape too.

Believe me, these are super easy to make. I made 2 in a few minutes. I'm thinking they might be super cool to include in a pocket letter... :)

Have fun. Any questions, post in comments below.

P.S. Since these would also make fun envies for ATCs, if you want to size them that way, please include ATC blanks in those envies, but don't forget to put one card of washi tape samples in the other envies.

In the tutorial, she only uses washi to seal the sides and then to hold the flap down (on some of them.) Do we need to use washi over the whole envelope or is it ok to just seal the sides with it?

ArtyBeth3 03/27/2015 #

@paperpusher just sealing the sides is fine. My intent was to use decorative paper to start with, so we really don't need to decorate the envie beyond the sides with tape.

My Michael's store had discount 12x12 paper pads at 70% off today. Lots of pretty papers oh my. I couldn't believe it, but I only bought one pad...and hmmm...some washi tape seemed to jump into my basket too....oh no....oh yes!! :)

Imagine that!! How DID that washi get into your buggy???? ;)

Could I make the envelope to fit a blank ATC card and include that blank instead of a playing card?

mousepoo 04/ 3/2015 #

It's 2.5 by 3.5. Roughly same size as most playing cards.

ArtyBeth3 04/ 3/2015 #

Yes, @mousepoo you can do that. I added a "P.S." to the instructions above.

For this swap we need to make 2 sets of 3, we have 2 partners that will get a set of 3 envies with one card with 4 strips of sample washi tapes. Each partner (2) will get 1 card enclosed in the envy with washi samples right?
Thanks. I am thinking about signing up for this, just want to get this straight so I know what to make..lol

One more questions.... Do the envies have to be exactly like the envy's on the blog?
