Description:

Please note: This is a time-intensive swap. Please be sure you can commit to it before signing up! Flakers will be banned from the group.

For this swap, you will create a summer reading journal spanning the months of June, July, and August. There should be a minimum of 50 entries that represent your life as a reader this summer. Entries can be typed or handwritten but the final product should be in physical journal form, either in a bound journal/notebook or a binder.

Ideas for entries include but are not limited to:

  • Your summer reading goals
  • Your childhood memories of summer reading
  • Reviews of books you've finished
  • A pocket containing a bookmark or bookplate for your partner
  • Book festivals, author talks, or other literary events you attend
  • Book sales you visit
  • Book club discussions
  • Your thoughts about particular topics/genres
  • Copies of other book-related swaps you participate in
  • Lists of books you purchased or got out of the library
  • Descriptions of your favorite summer reading spot(s)
  • What books you choose to take on vacation with you and why
  • Books you gave up on and why
  • Reading challenges you participated in
  • Articles about books that catch your eye in a magazine/newspaper/blog and why you found them interesting
  • Movies or TV shows you watch that were based on books
  • Top ten lists of books

These are just some ideas to get you started. If it's related to your bookish adventures this summer, it's fine to put in your journal!

Journal size: I recommend you use a journal that's about the size of a composition book. That should give you enough room for meaningful entries. If you go slightly smaller than that, please include at least 10 extra entries. If you go significantly small, include at least 20 extra entries.

Please send your journal to your partner by September 10. Because of shipping costs, this is USA-only. If one of our international officers wants to make an international version, please do!

Any size requirement for the journal?

KateKintail 05/31/2015 #

Let's say composition notebook size or larger.

Oh my gosh I just saw your note Kate and I already bought a really cute journal to use, but it is smaller than a composition journal. :C Should I buy a new one?

Why is is USA only ???

KateKintail 06/15/2015 #

@damilola As it says in the description, it's USA only because journals are heavy and thus shipping costs are high to send internationally. But if anyone else wants to host a version that's international or for another region of the world, that's certainly fine by me!

@KateKintail thanks for your answer. I know of high postage. Thats really bad, same over here.

Just wanted to say hi and hope you're doing all right with your summer reading journal project. We're about halfway through the summer now, so I wanted to touch base and make sure everyone is on track.

You should definitely have started by now, but there's still time to catch up if you've fallen behind. Check out the swap for some ideas if you're stuck about what to write or share. If there's a topic you want to suggest, feel free to post it in the comments.

I hope my partner likes bookmarks, because I keep coming across new ones when I'm at the library twice a week. Into the journal they go! heehee

If you have any questions, please feel free to message me or email me.
