An organization serving the homeless in Seattle is asking community members to send birthday cards to a gentleman turning 50 this year. I thought how amazing it would be if he could get birthday greetings from all over the world. His story and the link to the organizations's Facebook page will follow, but here's the swap: Send a birthday card or postcard to James with encouragement and love, then send a postcard to your partner, sender's choice. Easy peasy. And if you just want to send James a card too, that's cool - no need to join the swap. One more note: I mentioned I was hosting this to the organization and they asked that people avoid political or religious messages out of respect for James's beliefs which are unknown. Messages of Love are always welcome. Please don't put the swap name on your card for James. But be sure it and your username go on your partner's PC. I'm making the send date after Christmas which should still get the cards there in plenty of time if you're in the US or Canada. But if you are international, please consider sending James's card ASAP. Newbies are very welcome and I'm leaving the ratings super low so anyone can participate, but please know that if your PC from your partner is even late, I will gladly angel. I'll probably only ban someone if it seems things are hinky. About James - from the Homeless in Seattle Facebook page - edited slightly bigBIRTHDAY: James has been homeless since he was 15, lives under a bridge, is illiterate, and despite many folks being afraid of him, he's really a good and gentle person. For his last birthday we asked all of you to send birthday cards for him; he still talks about how wonderful that was! Today, when I came up to James on my bicycle, he was talking to his friend Lucky about his upcoming birthday, when he saw me he was so excited to repeat the story again of his last birthday and all the cards I had the pleasure of reading to him. James turns 50 years old on January 7th! Let's surprise him again with a flood of birthday cards and messages of LOVE. Please mail cards to: Facing Homelessness c/o James 1415 NE 43rd Street Seattle WA 98105 A heartfelt THANKS to everyone for taking time to make the little moments important for those suffering outside. |
