Description:

For December, I am deliberately keeing the send-by date in mid-Jan, so you can send it post-Holiday rush. However, if you are confident about your postal system, & want to seand early, go ahead!

Create one prayer flag for your partner to add to her string. Call them peace flags or "wish" flags if it so suits you!

Prayers/mantras/messages, colours, elements, text, and mediums are Sender's choice. No particular skills like sewing is necessary. Make the prayer flag a positive, hopeful one, serious is okay. The purpose of this swap is to have flags to hang outside our homes and exposed to the elements in the manner the Tibetans do - so that as the wind blows and the flags fade, the threads unravel - those wishes/positive mantras/prayers continue to be released into the world.

HOW TO MAKE PRAYER FLAGS: Cut pieces of fabric to 6" x 12". You can use fabric that is of the traditional 5 colours, or use any other colour or colours you love. You may use materials you already have on hand. I welcome you to re-purpose materials you have. Fold the top down on the piece of fabric and stitch in place (by hand or machine, or use a strong fabric adhesive) to create a 3" sleeve, making the flag surface 6" x 9". If using glue, make sure to use a sufficient amount to hold elements together as the flag is meant to hang outside. Leave the edges unfinished so they will unravel over time.

Above pics are JUST examples. Paint, stitch, stamp, dye, embroider, applique, print, or collage the flags... whatever inspires you. Add words, or symbols as desired. You can applique' letters, add hand stitching, stencil with textile paint, or just write with a permanent marker. However, when making it, do put your whole heart into it, & unleash your creativity. Yes, You are very creative.

Just remember - the style you send out may NOT be the style you get in return (you may embroider but your partner may paint theirs, for example). Please be considerate & do not down rate if you do not like the style, or what you got is too amateur for you. It is a prayer flag swap & we are doing it for positivity, our own, & the receiver's. ENJOY!

Mailing prayer flags- reducing costs : Fold the prayer flag into an A4 sheet as if sending a business letter, the prayer flag folds perfectly in with the A4. Pop it into an business envelope and post. This should go at the minimum letter rate. (I would work best with flags without 3-D elements) (Thanks @Star7Lily )

Once again -

  • One Partner

  • One fabric Prayer flag

Please maintain the dimensions, as it is the ONLY restriction.

I will angel if necessary, hope not, flaking on a prayer flag swap is so ick!
