Description:

Have any of you heard of the user-created card game 1000 Blank White Cards? If not, I explain the game below and provide links. For this swap, participants will create 5 ATC-sized (2.5 x 3.5 inches) cards for each of their two partners to use when creating their own game. These cards are intended to be creative, NOT time intensive. My suggestion is to not spend more than 5 minutes on teh actual construction phase of the card (the ideas might take longer). DO NOT WORRY if you are terrible at drawing...cards with stick figures can be just as funny!

Cards should be created on white cardstock for consistency. Please sign the bottom of each card, but leave the backs blank.

Game "Rules," such as they are:

The rules of this card game are simultaneously extremely simple and quite complex, because YOU are the one who creates the cards used in the game! The game was invented by Nathan McQuillan as an excuse to draw silly pictures and be creative.

This game is ideal for 3-6 players, and all you need to play are pens and blank white cards. Put 40-60 blank cards in the middle of the table, then give cards to each player (for 3 or 5 players, give 6 cards, for 4 or 6 players, give 5).

Players then create a selection of game cards. Give your card a title that describes what it does (such as “Michael Phelps Just Signed My Yearbook,” “Bruce Willis Fails to Destroy the Asteroid and Everyone is Killed,” “Math Class is a Breeze,” or “Pollen Season”). Then draw a picture to illustrate your card (these pictures do not have to be good AT ALL!). Finally decide how many points players gain or lose when your card is played or any other actions that must be taken. Of course, the card does not actually need to be worth anything at all. Just make it entertaining!

Once each player has completed their 5 or 6 cards, put them with the blank deck in the middle of the table and mix them up. Dealer gives 5 cards to each player. Beginning to the dealer’s left and continuing clockwise, each player takes a card from the deck in the middle of the table, then plays that card or one in their hand by putting it on the table. Points are assigned to or taken away from that player (or whichever player or players are targeted by the card) and the game continues around the table. You can play a card on yourself, on another player, or on all players by putting it in the center of the table. Turn any blank cards you receive into cards of your choice. If you cannot play a card in your hand for any reason, then draw a second card and pass your turn. When the deck in the middle runs out, the game is over, and the person with the most points wins.

The point of the game is not to win, however—it is to be creative with your cards! It is not really possible to win on purpose, as the game is quite random and doesn’t require strategy. Just draw wacky pictures and have fun!

After the game, everyone can choose their favorite cards to keep for next time.

To recap, send 5 cards each to your 2 partners. Newbies welcome, but don't have recent no-sends or overdue swaps when I assign partners.

I will assign partners for this swap on Saturday, as I will not have computer access tomorrow. Have fun, everyone!
