Description:

Mail Art is one of the most fun and therapeutic forms of art, precisely because it has very few rules. So be brave, sign up, and have some fun!

This swap has a long send time to allow you to relax and have fun with your mail art, not because we expect you to product Mona Lisa quality collages. And if you have not done mail art before you may need a bit of time to look around the internet, and maybe your library, to get some ideas.

While mail art has few rules, it does have a few principles: you don't need "fancy" equipment to participate, some of the best stuff usually comes through found/recycled objects, and a sense of humor is helpful. And since this is the HAW, a reference or a hint of something related to Children's Literature will be needed to complete your project but feel free to interpret that as broadly as you like.

For this swap you will have 2 partners, as once you get started with Mail Art it's easy to get a bit carried away! Create two mail art envelopes, 1 envelope for each partner. Put a small flat mail surprise in each envelope and you are done.

What will qualify as a "small flat surprise?" Here's some suggestions:

  • A new notecard with coordinating envelope
  • A sheet of stickers
  • A pin or a button
  • A profile surprise
  • A couple blank postcards
  • Something else you think is worthy of sending and fits in your envelope, which is a gift in itself.

If you have a question please post it below, and/or send me a message and I will post the answer here as soon as possible.

Have Fun & Happy Swapping! Onyx

what size envies?

Hi Onyx! Any chance you might be willing to reduce the amount of partners to 2?

Onyx 05/20/2011 #

Sure I would be happy to reduce the number of partners if it would get more folks to join :). I will also move the sign up date some since I was out of town for a couple of days and it took me a couple of days to reply ... sorry about that!

As for the size of the envies, I usually rely on the post office for minimums and let folks rely on their imaginations for maximums because it can get pretty strange dealing with postal regulations already. But if you all would feel more comfortable with sizes I can definitely add those too. Whatever works, just let me know :).
