Hi I'm JoeKochin🇯🇵

🙋🏻‍♀️About my name

Yes, I go by "JoeKochin" — but I'm female!
The “Ko” is not some secret code — it comes from the Japanese character for “child” (子), a common ending in girls' names.

So no worries, you're not chatting with a mysterious guy.
Just a stationery-loving, swap-happy, flower-loving human with a quirky pen name!
(Also, yes — that’s a short-haired Bitmoji. Still female!)

If you have any issues, such as a swap not arriving,
please message me before rating.
I’ll be happy to sort things out—thank you so much for your understanding! 😊

About Me

I was born in Hiroshima but have been living in Osaka for a long time.
Osaka’s quirky vibe suits me perfectly!

I’m new to Swap-bot and excited to connect with people from around the world.
Although my English is still a work in progress, feel free to send messages in English!
I have a super partner, Chaichai (my Assistant ChatGPT), who helps me with translations. 😉

I don’t realize it myself, but people often tell me, “You’re unique!” 😂
I also have a broad sense of humor, so feel free to be direct—no need to overthink things!

My Hobbies

  • Growing succulents (Echeveria, Sedum, Agave) and carnivorous plants 🌱
  • I love crafting! ✂️
  • Writing ✍️
  • Occasionally drawing Zentangles—I'm not great at drawing, but I enjoy it!
  • Watching movies 🎥 (I love ones based on true stories)
  • Listening to music 🎶 (Rock, psychedelic, classical… I’ll listen to anything! But rock is my main vibe.)
  • Going to live concerts & interesting festivals! (I've been to Burning Man! 🔥)
  • I love philosophy without answers. …🤔💭
If philosophy had answers, it wouldn’t be philosophy anymore.

No Pressure, Just Vibes.

About my favorites

I’m often told I’m a bit of a “unique one,” haha.
So when it comes to my favorites — don’t overthink it!
You don’t have to match my taste perfectly or try too hard to tailor things to me.

When I receive something, I can feel it.
Even if the envelope isn’t exactly “my style,” I can tell when someone poured their soul into it.
That’s what matters most to me.

My Favorite List

Craft & Stationery

  • Paper crafting (writing, folding, cutting, gluing, coloring... I just love paper!)
  • Zentangle (I draw when the mood strikes)
  • Lettering (not perfect, but I love handwriting)
  • Carving eraser stamps
  • Japanese paper: MD, Tomoe River, Maruman
  • Writing tools: Rotring 600 (0.5mm), Staedtler (sharpened with a Higonokami knife), Juice Up, Jetstream (extra-fine tips), fountain pens (extra-fine)
  • OLFA cutter knives, King Jim stationery
  • Stamps & inks: Shachihata, Sanby

Washi Tape & Stickers

  • Obsessed with washi tapes — collector level!
  • Love all sorts of colors and designs
  • Stickers: surreal, sarcastic, humorous, band/character-based
  • Currently into label-style stickers

Journaling & Collage

  • I enjoy themed journaling and intuitive collage-making

Colors

  • Blue, green, yellow, gray
  • Favorite combos: gray + yellow, green + pink, purple + yellow

Art & Illustration

  • Artists I admire:
Taro Okamoto, Fujiko Fujio A, Hideaki Anno, Kazuo Umezu, Fujio Akatsuka, Suehiro Maruo, Shigeru Sugiura

Characters

  • Characters from the artists above
  • Hachiware from Chiikawa
  • Rubber duck (the classic yellow kind)
  • 80s-style characters

Fashion

  • Casual style
  • Love hats — especially berets (I always wear one when I go out)

Food & Drink

  • Ice cream addict (so much that I eat low-carb meals just to enjoy it guilt-free)
  • Coffee, unsweetened chai latte, jasmine tea
  • A bit picky with food overall (lol)

Music

  • If I like it, I’ll listen to it nonstop
  • Prefer music with instruments, but I also enjoy techno and psychedelic sounds

Movies

  • Based on true stories or documentary-style films
  • Not into overly unrealistic plots or overly romanticized endings

Books & Zines

  • Not a big reader, but I love making mini zines!

Postcards

  • I believe postcards reflect the sender’s personality
  • I purposely don’t list favorites — surprise me!

Plants

  • Succulents: Echeveria, Sedum, Agave
  • Favorite flowers: cherry blossoms, peonies, sunflowers, walnuts, smoke trees
  • I enjoy arranging fresh flowers and drying them afterward

Places & Travel

  • My room is my happy place
  • If I could travel again: San Francisco
(I want a burrito, a night cruise to Alcatraz Island, and to eat a Homerun Pie from the supermarket I went to back then)

Seasonal & Holiday Themes

  • I prefer seasons that are not too hot or cold
  • I’m Japanese, so traditional Japanese holidays are familiar to me
I love learning about non-Japanese holidays and customs!

Things That Make Me Smile

  • Learning something new
  • Seeing others smile

A Few Things I'm Not a Fan Of

Please don’t feel pressured to match my Favorites —
I truly enjoy surprises and discovering new things through swaps!

That said, here are a few things I’m not too fond of:

  • Glitter – Especially the kind that falls off easily. It gets everywhere and is hard to clean up!
  • Foam or puffy stickers
  • Overly childish or baby-themed items
(Kawaii is fine, but I like it with a twist!)
  • Strong artificial scents
  • Plain functional planner stickers
(Date boxes, To-Do lists, etc. — I don’t use a planner, so these go unused)
  • Sticky notes (post-its)
    I rarely use sticky notes.
That said, using a sticky note for decoration or as a little message is totally fine!

I generally prefer things that are not too shiny or sparkly — soft, matte, or textured items are more my vibe.

That being said...
Sometimes I unexpectedly fall in love with things I wasn’t into before.
So if you send something with heart, care, and intention — I’ll probably feel it, and love it anyway!

And above all, what makes me happiest is when you prepare and send swaps with joy. 💕

Swap & Crafting

Reading my partner’s profile and thinking about how to create something special for them is one of my favorite moments!
I’m still experimenting and figuring things out, but working on swaps has become one of the most enjoyable times in my life right now!

Real Talk (Just a little.)

Look, I’ll always appreciate what you send.
I’ll smile and say thank you — because I mean it.
But if something feels like it was thrown together without much thought, I’ll probably notice that too.
And honestly? That’s okay.

I get that not every swap will be perfect, and not everyone will click with my vibe.
Still, if you put even a little heart into it, I’ll feel it.
That’s what I care about most.

So don’t stress. Be real. Be you.
And let’s enjoy this swap thing together, flaws and all.

If you have any concerns or issues with a swap,
please don’t hesitate to message me.
Let’s keep swapping fun and enjoyable for both of us! 😊

Thank you so much for reading my profile—
I’m looking forward to swapping with you!

I couldn’t agree more — there’s something magical about taking the time to write and receive a handwritten letter. I’ll be looking forward to hearing from you again!

Comment: I was so excited to see an envelope from you because your swaps are filled with so much love! Thank you! My first vinyl record back around 1976 was the Monkees. I’ve been listening to classic rock and metal lately, but recently attended a small intimate concert for Lady Blackbird, a soul singer. Enjoyed it very much!
Response: Hi again, TishaAnn! Thank you so much — your message made my heart so full! I’m beyond honored that you feel that way about my swaps. I loved reading about your musical journey — from The Monkees to Lady Blackbird! It’s so special how music carries us through time and memories. Here’s to more beautiful songs and soulful concerts in your future!

Comment: Hello, first of all, thank you so much, this was such a delightful piece of mail to receive, I was smiling before I even opened the envelope and it just got wider as I did! Thank you so much for your wonderful letter and the ame-chan! My love language letter was actually very similar to yours; I love giving and receiving small meaningful gifts, leaving and reading cute notes left on the table, and I loveeee just hanging out with my partner! I hope you have a wonderful spring :)
Response: Hi Phoebe! Your message made me smile just as much — thank you for such a warm and lovely comment! It’s so heartwarming to hear that our love languages are so similar! There’s something truly special about those quiet little gestures and shared moments, isn’t there? I’m so glad you enjoyed the letter and the ame-chan — sending lots of spring sunshine your way!

Comment: Hi Ryoko! Your swap was an absolute delight. I love how you use Washi to make it special. Maybe you used ink stamps too? I cannot tell but I want to replicate everything you did. Enjoy your succulents. I have a few myself. Maybe I'll also give them a trip outside in the next few weeks. Thanks again!
Response: Hi TishaAnn! Thank you so much for your sweet comment and rating — it truly made my day! Yes, I did use some ink stamps along with washi tape — I’m so happy you noticed the little details. And yay for succulents! I hope yours enjoy some sunshine soon too. Wishing you happy swapping and lots of crafty joy!

Comment: Thank you for the lovely letter. I can relate to your comments about a digital world. For work, I am on email and phone all the time, and I enjoy the silence and quiet conversation that comes from writing a letter. I am still quite new to having penpals, but I'm writing to a few people now. I hope you don't mind if I send you a letter in reply. Happy Swapping Cathy
Response: Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment and lovely rating! I really appreciated hearing your thoughts about the digital world — I completely agree. There’s something so grounding and peaceful about writing and receiving real letters. Of course I’d love to receive a letter from you — I’d be delighted! Happy swapping to you too, and I hope we can continue this lovely exchange!

Comment: Always nice to see your greeting in my mailbox. Growing up we had a Cherry blossom tree. I love how they swirled around when they blew off the tree limbs. It is one tree that truly brings me happiness when I see them. You are lucky to have a park nearby that has them. Thank you for the very nicely made book marks. Ones I WILL use and remember you by. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a wonderful weekend.

I’m so glad you liked the bookmarks, and it truly means a lot to know you’ll be using them and thinking of me. Wishing you a peaceful and joyful weekend as well!

Happy Daisy day!

Fun Fact: daisies are actually two flowers in one! The outside petals are one flower, and the inside disk is another flower. They combine so well together that they became a symbol of love!
