About Me

I always rate! If you have not received a rating from me, please contact me. I am a sahm with a 6 yo dd whom I homeschool. My life revolves around my daughter, food, and brief excursions into freelance data analysis. I love almost all types of teas except thyme. I like to go to foreign groceries, buy things without American labels and figure out how to cook them. I am not a foodie, but people who come to eat at my house are not allowed to ask what they are eating until after dinner because I like to experiment with anything I can get my hands on. My friends consider me a gourmet cook, but they are used to the typical American diet. I stay away from sugar and processed foods on general taste principles. I am addicted to research, especially medical research.

Favorite Books

Brundibar, anything by Leonard Mlodinow

Favorite Movies

Hair, Star Trek, , Sound of Music, Rocky Horror

Favorite Television

We don't have a tv. And please don't offer us one, we have no space for it.

Favorite Crafts

cooking, soap and lotion making. Do legos count as a craft? My daughter and I are both learning to draw from the "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" book and I teach art to her homeschool group.

Likes

I like to combine jewel and earth tones together. Shakespeare and classic poetry -possibly nothing past Ginsburg - but I would be open to listening - I like poetry slams and open mikes but these days they start past my bedtime.
Good coffee - we use a coffee press at home and grind our own. New artists that I haven't heard before - but not discordant noise. Anything that is beautiful. Good friends, long term friends, good long term friends. New places - spontaneous travel (which is almost impossible as a foster parent). My husband

Dislikes

I don't like Kawaii - yes I send it out, but only because you've put it in your profile that you like it, and I like to send things that make people happy.

Sugar, partially hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup - Unless it's a curlywurly and then all bets are off. Velveeta is another secret weakness but I would never admit it.

Plastic cookware or dishware. Unless it's made out of Velveeta.

Favorite Music

Anything except rap. I only like reggae and country for the first 10 minutes. I love folk and punk, especially 60's folk and 80's punk. Minor keys, especially D minor. Psychedelic trance vibrations - preferably without drum machines or other synthesized instruments - although I can listen to good drumming for hours.
Leonard Cohen - although I get depressed if I listen to more than small doses. Bubblegum 70's music. Americana, and other classical music. Medieval, Baroque, but not mexican instrumental.

Comment: Thank you for the great tea selection :) The flavours look very interesting cant wait to try them! And the muffin recipe looks yummy. Do you know what I can substitute corn syrup with? I don't think we have that here. I will def try them though! Thanks again x
Response: found this information on the web, but I'm not sure how you would compensate for the liquid To answer a question that seems to be big on a lot of people's minds - here is a simple substitute for corn syrup in recipes: Use one quarter (1/4) teaspoon of cream of tartar for each two cups of sugar. The cream of tartar will change some of the sugar into glucose, which prevents crystallization of the sugar as it cools. This is why corn syrup and the like is used. Cream of tartar obtains the same results without the addition of more sugars. The chemical name for cream of tartar is potassium hydrogen tartrate, (if you can't find it in the grocery store, try looking in the pharmacist's or the apothecary.) and is usually obtained as a by-product of wine production.
