I am new at art swaps and am delighted to have found this site. I started a blog 2 years ago as a way to share my art. It has morphed into so much more: a personal surviviors art journal. I have found new and fun art forms and gained many friends through my blog. First and foremost as an artist I am a photographer who also loves doing art edits of my photos. Phartography: where photography and art meet.
I love doing Zentangle, an art form I have picked up from my blogging, and have developed my own style. I draw using graphite, colored pencils and watercolor pencils. I also paint with acrylics. I sew, quilt and make stuffed animals and dolls.
I am an avid eclectic reader and read just about every genre but romance and westerns . My favorite colors are yellow and purple( my studio is done in these colors plus black). I wear a lot of black, navy blue combined with all colors in jewel tones and dramatic tones (those colors with black in them ie: not red but burgandy (dark red) and rust (dark orange) combined with brown. My size is changing quickly- I've lost 4 dress sizes in the the last 3 months so for now accessories only. Love scarves, homemade unique jewelry.
I collect anything with lions (I'm a Leo), koalas, Halloween decorations (especailly gargoyles and zombies, skeletons), Christmas santas, Pirate themed stuff, fantasy themed items (dragons, fairies, elves), Star Wars items I have an amazon.com wish list using my name Johnina Young- see my blog. I am an Amazon associate so if you go to Amazon through my blog; I recieve a portion of the sale. All it costs you is an extra mouse click to go to my blog. This helps me get art supplies and have more to swap; see my blog for more info.
I like to recieve- see above for theme ideas
Mail art,
Markers- Sharpies with the retractable very fine point being my favorite and any micron pen, calligraphy
Fabric squares, fabrics of all kinds,
Book marks , Unusual mail stamps,
Stickers,
Scrapbook papers, Stationary- Computer stationary
Stamps and stamping supplies,
Pens,
Key chains,
ATCs (brand new love),
Totes,
Stencils , Drawing and creativity books
Photography technique books,
Dover clipart art or coloring books
Exercise DVDs Variety is what keeps me exercising- In particular I am looking for 'Jamica Me Sweat' it came out in VHS and recieving that would be great- Love multicultural dance exercise videos the best- than yoga or tia chi and that type of exercise
Herbal teas- decaf- Since I am a Mormon I do not drink black tea or coffee
I also have an Amazon wish list (see my blog- click on it above)
I use my computer for most letter writing. Whereas I think hand written letters are more personal; I have arthritis and neuropathy in my hands, plus carpal tunnel so I find using a voice recognition program (Dragon) much easier. My art provides therapy but handwriting just irritates things.
I do not flake; I have now done enough swaps to know what it means, so if you do not recieve your package please notify me so I may fix the problem. Due to safety issues, I use a post office box. I do not check it every day as I have multiple heath problems and am sometimes housebound. Sometimes mail will sit at the post office for a couple of days. I check a minimum of twice a week. I try really hard to make sure I rate the partners who send items so if it takes me a couple of days after you think I should have recieved a package don't be overly concerned I will rate it as soon as I pick it up. Just message me if you are concerned and i will get back to you. I try to post my homemade arts and crafts sent to swaps on my flickr page within a day or two of sending them, so the person I send to can get a sneak peek.
I have such diverse interests in music that it would be difficult to list them all here. I do however listen to pandora . I love pandora, it not only plays your favorites but also music that is simular to it. I have found many new favorite artist this way. Join me, sign up and friend me. As an artist trying to set up an Internet business; I am very aware of copyright laws so I will not send variety CD's- however if you go to pandora you can listen to my music choices.
Right now my favorite shows are Criminal Minds, Warehouse 13, Burn Notice, Merlin, Eureka, Doctor Who, Bones. Still watch Star Trek reruns (all but Deep Space Nine), X-files. I have been thinking of joining Hulu so I can watch some of my older series favorites. (Scarecrow and Mrs King, Simon and Simon, Remington Steele just to name a few), Would love to find a place where I could watch old Dark Shadows reruns, both the TV show and the movies.
I have been an avid reader all my life so listing books would be overwhelming so I will give you some of my favorite authors of the different genres I read
