Hi there!
Before I introduce myself, I would like to thank Swap-bot and all of you out there who take the time to take part in this fantastic community. Without you Swap-bot, there would be a heck of a lot more UFO's floating about. (I know my track record has improved a hundredfold of actually finishing things before I'm distracted by the siren call of starting something new. (don't look in that closet...) There's nothing like a concrete deadline to spur on the sticktoitiveness. My husband thanks you too as the stash has actually gone down a bit since I joined.){visible stash that is, we won't get into the deep stash...}
Ok. Now to the stuff you really would like to know. Just who is AuntCarrot?
I love kitschy things and collect vintage flour sifters and antique kitchen tools.
I love all things knitting and crochet. I've never met a fibre that wasn't good for something, everything has it's own beauty whether it's immediately apparent or not so much. Acrylic scratchier than steel wool? pan scrubber.. how about a boot mat ? The options are mind boggling. I've also met yarns that were so beautiful they made me want to weep for joy. I'm not a yarn snob obviously but I seem to enjoy natural animal fibers the best. Really, if it is unique and of decent quality, I'm game.
I absolutely adore vintage knitting and crochet patterns and magazines. There's not a knitting technique I won't attempt once. If it doesn't work out, well it was still knitting so that's still good, life is a learning process.
I also really enjoy sewing and quilting. I love to make unique things and very seldom actually follow the patterns. I like embroidery but don't have the patience for cross stitch. I am a beginner rug hooker (tradional) and enjoy using a handspindle. (prefer top-whorl)
I have to admit, I'm not into scrapbooking at all. Don't get me wrong, It's creative and often beautiful, just a little out of my range.
You'll have to bear with me, I'm not terribly computer literate and I can't seem to get the drop-down options for favorite music/books, etc. to work so I'll list them here....
Music - 60 - 90's rock/pop Books - Terry Pratchett, Jane Austin, obscure history etc. Secret shameful addiction, Harlequin Romances from the 60's - 80's I've got a real weakness for Knitting magazines. All of them. Crochet too. Please don't introduce me to any other craft type magazines, I recently discovered Tilda and purchased 2 books featuring her... I've already got a sewing room and a knitting room, at this rate I'll never be able to downsize to a nice efficient apartment. (Don't listen to me, bring 'em on!) Movies - vintage B- horror (vincent price etc.) romantic comedies (while you were sleeping) classic black & white (Bogart etc.) Film Noir TV - How I Met Your Mother,Big Bang Theory, Documentaries, Time Team, Corner Gas. Crafts - see above.
I am fascinated by other cultures and would love to learn about other places in the world. If you get me as a partner, let me know something about your neck of the woods! What makes the place that you're from so fantastic? Something interesting and not specifically touristy. Perhaps a little history, unique things to your area, culture etc. Something off of the beaten path.
For example, I grew up in a small town in Southwestern Ontario which is famous the world over for oil. Believe it or not, I know I'm home by the smell in the air on a hot august day!
I enjoy unique and quirky things. crazy socks, crafty stuff, squirrels, owls, cutsie things too. Pretty much anything vintage. As for candies etc. I like pretty much anything except for sour things. (makes my face turn inside out!) I really like sweets that aren't too sweet like black licorice, gummies, wine gums, those pink chalky peppemint things, molasses taffy etc.
Even though I know that I should drink green tea, I'm not a big fan. Black tea and coffee are another matter altogether!
Autumn is my favourite time of year, the colours, the crisp air, the smells. Sometimes I wish is could be Autumn all year round! My favourite colours are deep tones of oranges, reds, browns, greens. I also love clear bright jewel tones. emerald, ruby, sapphire. Kingfisher blue,
I do ask that you don't send anything vanilla scented as I'm very allergic and tend to react badly to most perfumed things. Also I don't celebrate most traditional holidays, I'm an all year round kind of gal and don't have a use for holiday specific items.
**A little note to swap-admins, My computer is old and clunky, (kind of like me some days) I am also on dial-up. This means I don't have even remotely updated software and most buttons and headings/dropdowns are non-functioning. I think if I tried to update, the monstrosity of a tower would just laugh at me while it chugged away. I have tried to be clear on my likes and dislikes, I am however a bit old fashioned and prefer to type as I speak. I'm sorry, you will have to skim through the above paragraphs if you want to get to know me, If you don't wish to do this or don't have the time, well, that's okay, I'll miss taking part in your swap and the chance to get to know you but I will understand. I apologize if this seems a bit rude, it was not intended as such, I have however been banned from a few swaps due to an "incomplete profile".
You may have noticed a bit of a sabbatical between Aug 2012 to Sept 2013. After a year of varying family crisis, life has calmed down and I would really like to get back into swapping.
