Hello! I'm new and my name is Tagreed. I'm 27 years old. I'm a woman that lives in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. I was born and raised here.
I currently work as an ABA therapist at an autism center. I work with autistic children. As I'm writing this, I've only been working as one for two weeks. I don't like it very much, but I'm most likely going to stay in this field for about a year. Before this, I was unemployed for 17 months. And before this, I was a Pre-k teacher for a year. During that year, I was also a foreign language teacher (Arabic) to Kindergarten and 1st grade.
I have two degrees: Psychology, and Japanese Studies.
I grew up speaking English and Arabic at home, but now I'm only fluent in English. I understand Arabic rather well, but I'm quite horrible when it comes to grammar and speaking. As for Japanese, I studied it for 4 years in college. By the end of college, I was intermediate level. I took a 3 to 4 year break from studying it, and I plan to pick it up again at the beginning of 2018. I can still read and understand a lot of it, but no where near where I used to be.
Ethnically, I'm Palestinian. I'm also a Muslim. I wear the hijab, fast, etc. My ethnic and religious identities are important to me, especially because I'm a religious and ethnic minority who has been living in the US her entire life. I'm a second generation immigrant (the child of two immigrants). Historically, as in the past 80 years or so, my family has had to deal with heavy stuff. i.e. my great grandparents and grandparents fled from their home to escape war. Both of my parents were born in refugee camps, and these refugee camps eventually turned into the slums of gaza where my parents were raised.
I don't like politics, but I admit it's quite important to always be aware of what's going on locally, nationally, and globally. I consider myself a progressive when it comes to politics, social issues , and environmental issues.
Some social issues that I care about are racism, sexism, homophobia, immigration, poverty, mental health, illiteracy, and healthcare.
I'm childfree (as in, I don't have kids and I don't want any). I'm single. I have 4 younger siblings, and 3 older half ones. I'm close to my younger siblings and parents, and I live with them.
I'm an introvert. Shy and socially anxious. My hobbies include journaling, reading (lgbtqia high fantasy), listening to music, yoga, watching anime, watching Korean drama, and reading manga. I'm new to journaling (only started at the beginning of 2017!), but I love it and my current obsession in life is stationery. Particularly Japanese stationery.
Chillstep, atlernative rock, hard rock, and korean rock are the genres I'm most interested in.
