Comment: Hi Catherine and thanks for the wonderful postcards! Love the Great Ocean Road one and wish I could see it before they all fall into the sea. That view of Melbourne w/the stadium is a good one too--when my cousin from Hampton East was here we watched Aussie football on tv together and she tried to explain rules to me and all - that was fun! The 3rd one, the Koala, is darling--I may have to gift that one to my niece who lists them as her all-time favorite animal (mine is the platypus if you can believe that-ever seen a postcard of them?). thanks again, Carol in Denver
Response: Postcards of a Platypus are very difficult to find. I will look for one for you. Koalas on postcards are very easy to find. Understanding our football is also hard.

I would love to visit you and your cache. I haven't tried a 5/5 yet. I would definitely love a trip in a float plane to get there. The weather is getting colder here so I don't know how much geocaching I will do in the next few months.

Comment: thank you for your post card. I LOVE the sea turtle :) Yes sometimes we need to let go and allow our kids to grow. It was very difficult for me when my first one got married and moved away. I was never a drinker but that year I remember I began enjoying some wine coolers :) It is hard for them to grow up and equally hard for us to let them:) Congrats on 18 months out! Life does get more restful as time goes on. Best wishes to you in 2015! May Health and Happiness be yours.

Comment: Today surely was a Good Mail Day with the receipt of your generous mailing of airmail labels and postage stamps. I also really like the stamps you used on the envelope. Thanks also for the collector's item Metro ticket. In the Bay Area we can choose between the paper/magnetic ticket, a close cousin of the one you sent, and the rechargeable plastic card. I still use both.
Response: I am glad that you enjoyed my envelope. I try to read people's profiles and send some extra items, if I can. I still like the paper tickets because you can collect them. They used to produce different ones at Christmas time or to advertise special events.

Response: I am glad that you like the lorikeets. They visit our garden and can be very noisy and cheeky. Now that school has finished one son sleeps all day and the other watches sport on the TV. At least I get to sleep in each morning.

Response: Koalas only live where there are trees that they like to eat. I have never seen koalas near Rosebud but apparently they can be found in the surrounding areas. French Island and Phillip Island are popular places to see koalas.

Response: If you search for 'Australia population map" on the internet you will see where people live. There are no roads where there are no people. The centre of Australia and most of Western Australia is very hot and very dry. No-one wants to live there.

Comment: I wish it was possible to give someone more than just one heart because for your wonderful card one heart isn't enough. Such a nice surprise that you were able to get a match from my wishlist for this swap and seriously I LOVE the card (it's really cute and actually my first Wombat card). Thank you! I do enjoy being a Chemo Angel and I feel that if something simple as sending a letter or two a week can help someone who's going through Chemo then it is definitely worth doing it. Though I sometimes do worry if what I write will be interesting enough since my life is pretty ordinary. But I really love writing letters to my patient and simply hope that she loves reading them just as much :) Sorry this turned into such a long comment! Thanks again for the postcard! :)

Response: I think that the children of today miss the fun of dirt roads and big potholes. It is still possible in Australia but it is harder to find the great, unspoilt places.

And how wonderful to get this card as it is certainly something I would not otherwise get here in the US. Actually, companies do make many "beachy" Christmas cards, but I think the only places where they could be sold would be Florida and California. :D (We just got 3 inches of snow here in New Jersey yesterday.) Enjoy the week!
Response: I am very glad that you liked it. I like to send Australian themed cards overseas. It reminds people that not everyone has a 'cold' Christmas although we still eat the traditional hot Christmas dinner of roast meat and vegetables, then plum pudding.

Response: Our Greensborough was named after settler Edward Bernard Green, who was also the district mail contractor.

Response: I first visited Uluru 40 years and the journey was a lot different to the easy road travel that happens now days. We took 4 weeks food with us in a trailer. Nowdays there is a supermarket at the accommodation village.

Response: The bears are Syrian Bears, a subspecies of the Eurasian Brown Bear. They are light in colour, sort of honey-coloured.

And it was so interesting to see your weather report - 43F and cold and rainy. . . here we have had a heat wave of high 90s with high humidity - storm last Friday night cut electricity in many areas - tomorrow to be 100 with heat index of 105. . .this is how it's been across the US from CO to the East Coast for the past two weeks and it is unbearable (air quality is horrible). . . very odd weather pattern! Thanks again for the great PCs and happy swapping ~~

Response: I post my mail in a mailbox outside my local corner store. I wonder if they are hand sorted at the regional mailcentre because the machine can't read my handwriting. A few people have noticed the lack of cancellation. It's great when it happens to my incoming mail. I can reuse the stamps.

Response: I'm glad that you liked the platypus. There would be some children in Australia who would not know what it was. They are difficult to see in the wild and even in the zoo they are in the nocturnal area so it's hard to see them in the darkened enclosure.

My dad was there in the service and that is all he talked about how nice the people were and how pretty it was. I have a stuffed koala bear that he had made out of kangaroo fur. I've seen numerous documentaries and travel shows about Australia and it looks beautiful in some areas and rugged in other areas. . . very much like our country. Thank you for the beautiful postcards you sent me. I love the flower postcard as we have a wattle tree in our backyard which attracts the tui each year when they run out of flax flowers to eat from. We had 5 males in our tree last year singing to their hearts content everyday. It was so beautiful that I can't wait to see how many we will have next season.
Of all the places in Australia that I have been to, I love Melbourne the best and will be taking a trip there in the not so distant future. I love the pace of life there.
Response: Thank you for the lovely comments. I have lived in Melbourne all of my life and I am very used to the pace. I find the other cities too busy, too small or too hot. I love to visit them all but am glad when I return home, to Melbourne.

Response: I am glad that you like them. They are not very popular in Australia yet and there are only a few tourist places that have machines at present. Most Australians would not know what they are or that people overseas collect them seriously.

Comment: Thank you for the penny from the Melbourne Zoo! I volunteer at Como Zoo in St. Paul, MN, so this penny is special! Como has a historic carousel next to it too. It used to be at our State Fair grounds but moved to Como. It too is around 100 years old. How come the best carousels are the old one!?! I notice this one circles from right to left. Ours goes left to right. Also, thank you for the stamps!

Response: Most of the machines in Australia that I have seen use 100% “Blank Copper Coins†that are pre-loaded into the machine. I do have two US cents out of one of the machines at Adelaide Zoo. The machines are “Hand Crank†non-electric. You select your design, put in a $2 coin and then crank.

Comment: Hi Catherine: Thank you for the wonderful free/ad cards. I did like the cenus card. The US census takes something like a year to complete. They hire all kinds of temporary staff...it's crazy...but only once every 10 years. I also loved the Gnomeo & Juliet cards. My daughter was a bit jealous of those.
